state violence, state control.

Tomorrow at 6 or 7 AM the pigs will be "clearing out" Occupy Wall Street. You all know what that means. If you've been reading this blog you know I hate hippie ideals...I'm not sure I even qualify as left-wing anymore. But at this point it's bigger than that. It's the first real chance Americans have had in decades to speak out against the disease of capitalism, to say something that has been unsayable in the imprisoning language of American politics. It's an opening, a glimmer of opportunity, and Bloomberg and his goons are determined to close it. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, so I'm gonna be there. Fuck business as usual.

  3. Because the Soviet Union was a much better nation than the U.S. Capitalism is totally evil, we should switch over to communism where the government enslaves millions upon millions of people to work themselves to death!!! Fuck tha police comin straght from da underground!!

  4. Hippie, the irony is pretty lame. This isn't about communism. It's about how the financial systems of the world, and the U.S. in specific, are completely unfair and cause misery to the everyday person. The richest have consolidated all the economic wealth and political power, while everyone else is left with the burden. Everyone, regardless of race, creed, or background, in this country is suffering more financial hardship than anytime since the great depression. While banks and corporate elite make obscene sums of money. That isn't right.

    The Soviet Union was never a true communist state. No state has ever been. No economic system is perfect. But the way capitalism is going in the US is out of control. The banks and corporations gambled with everyone's money. They should be held accountable for their actions. Take your conservative reactionist irony somewhere else.

    @Ido
    Well put, my friend. Just as the Soviet Union represented a perversion of true communism (which is a very similar theory to true anarchism), the entire Western/American/European take on capitalism can be said to be a perversion as well - or at least a version of capitalism taken to ridiculous extremes.

  6. @Hippie: I, for my part, miss the glory days of Lenin. But the protests sure as hell aren't about that. The grievances here are much bigger than any one ideology. Whether you believe in the "free" market or one of many alternatives, there is much cause for outrage in the way the US has coddled the people who brought us the financial crisis.
